Being the first new eatery to open as part of the regenerated Fruit Market was no coincidence. We knew for a long time that we wanted to be based here, so when the opportunity arose we grabbed it with both hands.
Humber Street isn’t just a place. It’s a cultural backdrop and an ever-changing landscape of innovation. Far more than bricks and mortar, it embodies the spirit of freedom, openness, creativity and exploration that makes Hull such an incredible place to live and visit.
With so much going on in the area all year round, we designed a dining experience that would perfectly complement and work in unison with its identity and heritage. That’s where Butler Whites derives its name, as we’re based in the old warehouse of local fruit and veg merchant Dennis Butler. Dedicated to supporting independent businesses, we have regular produce deliveries from this long-established wholesaler.
With modern style, local history and culture at its core, the Butler Whites environment was shaped as both a welcoming retreat and an extension of festivals. So when it’s time for Humber Street Sesh, the Freedom Festival, the Hull Folk and Maritime Festival or any other event, you know that Butler Whites will be in on the action. It could be a pop-up cocktail bar, in-house DJs, art installations, unplugged acts or something totally unexpected, merging seamlessly with the celebrations whilst adding our own twist.
During summer we’ll have acoustic sets ranging from the lively to the chilled, whilst the colder months will see us inviting people in for mulled wine, winter dishes and good times. We can also be booked for special occasions, from wedding dinners to corporate hospitality. Find out more about private hire and how we can help to make your party one to remember.
With Hull being the UK City of Culture for 2017 and built on strong foundations of art, music, theatre and imagination, Humber Street is a focal point of exciting, eye-opening and mind-blowing activity. With the newly opened Humber Street Gallery accompanying numerous centres of creative expression, we’re proud to be part of a truly unique neighbourhood.
